Choosing support
Compare NDIS platforms
Compare NableU, Mable and Hireup: platform fees, employment models, participant choice and questions to ask before choosing NDIS support.
If you are looking for Mable alternatives, Hireup alternatives or a practical Mable vs Hireup comparison, start with the support relationship and the full cost. NableU, Mable and Hireup use different models. A lower platform charge does not establish equivalent insurance, employment benefits, safeguards or local availability.
Find support workers or explore independent support work.
NableU: participant-led relationships, currently free platform access
NableU currently has no platform fees or subscriptions. We aim to keep access free for as many people as possible for as long as possible. Support workers still charge for their work, and the support rate and terms must be agreed separately. This is our current position, not a promise that pricing will never change.
NableU supports participant-led discovery, support requests, direct relationships, separate Service Agreements and session planning. NableU does not process support payments or submit NDIA claims. Agree how payment, insurance and other responsibilities will be handled before support starts. Do not assume that the platform provides the same cover or services as another provider.
Mable: agreed rates with client and worker fees
Mable connects clients with independent support workers. Its published fee guide lists a client platform fee of 7.95%, added to the agreed support rate, and a support engagement fee of 10%, deducted from the worker's agreed rate. Mable says these fees support insurance, safeguards and its team. Check its current terms and the conditions of any cover.

Hireup: an employment model with a published support charge
Hireup employs its support workers. Its published support charges cover worker pay and employer responsibilities, including superannuation, payroll, tax and insurance for eligible booked and paid shifts. Rates vary with the booking. The difference between the client charge and a worker's wage is not directly comparable to a contractor platform commission.

How do platform fees affect an agreed hourly rate?
Consider an illustrative agreed contractor rate of $62 per hour. This is an example, not a quoted rate, NDIS price limit or funding entitlement.
- With a 7.95% client fee added, the client charge is $62 × 1.0795 = $66.93 per hour, rounded to cents.
- With a separate 10% worker deduction, the worker receives $62 × 0.90 = $55.80 before their own tax, insurance and other expenses.
- With no platform fee at the same agreed rate, the client charge and worker service amount are each $62 before any separately agreed costs and worker expenses.
The worker deduction is not an extra amount charged to the participant's plan. Do not add both percentages and present the result as lost participant funding or guaranteed extra support hours. These examples isolate fees; they do not compare the value of different services, cover or employment benefits. Actual rates, travel, cancellations and other terms may differ.
What should I compare before choosing an NDIS platform?
- The actual worker's skills, relevant evidence, communication style, availability and fit with your support needs.
- The total client charge and what the worker receives, including travel, cancellation and other charges.
- Whether the worker is an employee or an independent contractor, and who handles insurance, tax, superannuation and administration.
- What safeguards, support and complaint routes are available, and the conditions attached to insurance or other services.
- Who can see private information, what a coordinator can do, and how you can change permissions or end a relationship.
- Whether your particular support, worker and payment arrangements fit your funding and existing agreements.
Matching by interests or preferences is not unique to NableU. Ask each platform how its approach works for your circumstances rather than assuming that a feature label guarantees compatibility.
Can I bring an existing support worker to NableU?
You can explore NableU with someone you already know, subject to current onboarding, relevant checks, permissions and mutual agreement. A previous relationship does not automatically create a NableU relationship, Service Agreement or session booking.
Check existing employment, service and platform agreements before changing arrangements. Do not assume a worker can move an existing engagement away from another platform or employer. Plan continuity of support and confirm responsibilities before ending anything. See Hireup's explanation of how its employment arrangements work.
